When the team behind one of Williamsburg’s most beloved Italian gardens crossed into Fort Greene, they traded ivy for candlelight. Evelina is the darker, sleeker sibling — a corner dining room where menus follow the market, the grill runs on cherry wood, and the burrata ravioli has quietly become a neighborhood signature.
The Concept
Riccardo Buitoni, founder of Williamsburg’s Aurora, opened Evelina in late 2017 with Giuseppe de Francisci, whose résumé spans Aurora, Emporio and The Standard High Line; the opening chef arrived from the kitchens of Daniel and Boulud Sud. The cooking is Mediterranean with a firm Italian spine, designed for sharing and rewritten frequently as the market dictates — the cherry-wood-chip grill gives even simple dishes a gentle smoke.
What to Order
Graze first: zucchini blossoms, fritto misto, charred Spanish octopus, a peach salad at the height of summer. Then the pastas — burrata ravioli above all, bucatini al pomodoro for purists, spaghetti alle vongole for the coast. Mains stay confident and simple: black sea bass, pork chops, a dry-aged ribeye for two appetites.
